Marriage registers or minister's returns were filed after the marriage was performed by either the minister or judge who performed the ceremony. It was to be sent to the county clerk where the marriage was performed within twelve months after the marriage occurred

Christian County was created in 1796 as Kentucky's nineteenth county and named for Colonel William Christian. Hopkinsville is its county seat. The courthouse burned in 1864.
